Star Wars - May the Party be with You!

Whether you’re throwing a “May the 4th be with You” party or a Star Wars-themed birthday party, you’ll find tons of ideas scattered across the internet universe. A friend and I have thrown a couple of Star Wars parties, actually…one for our husbands (their birthdays are only a couple days apart) and another for our sons (their birthdays are a month apart). Both were lots of fun, but we didn’t decorate as much as we would have liked (things were a bit rushed); thus, my desire to produce a more comprehensive Star Wars party page so other planners can find inspiration.

Out of This World Star Wars Party Decorations

Having not decorated as much as I would have liked for previous parties, these Star Wars decoration ideas come from my "woulda-if-I-coulda" list. I'm sure there are more Star Wars-themed parties in my future, so I'll keep the list handy!

A Galaxy Far, Far Away...

The perfect fabric for this backdrop would be thin, black and sparkly. Why? Because I would add a curtain of LED lights behind it to shine through! This would function nicely behind a snack table or as a backdrop for taking photos of your little Jedi warriors.

Light Sabers Everywhere!

Pool noodles make awesome (and super easy) light sabers and come in just about every color imaginable!

With our last Star Wars party, we took it one step further. I found some "light sabers" that actually lit up, and they worked like a charm. The glowing light sabers we used at our last party were foam tubes with battery operated lights inside. The batteries could be changed (making them reusable), and the foam made them safe for the kids to swing around. All we had to do was add handles (black electric tape and silver duct tape).

Crafty, You Are...

These Yoda lanterns look really simple to make. I would add a face to the lantern as well for added detail (imagine that). It looks like BB8 would require a bit more craftiness, but the end result is pretty cool.

Star Wars Balloons

For these balloons, I would suggest blowing them up yourself (vs. helium) and hanging them from your ceiling. That would allow you to work on them in advance of your party without worrying about the helium escaping too soon.

However, if you choose Mylar balloons, you won’t have that problem. I’ve found Mylar holds helium for quite a while.

You can find a simple template online; just search “storm trooper balloon template.” Here’s one I found.

You might also choose to construct a few Yoda balloons. Same concept, but with a green balloon, Yoda’s face (here’s another template), and green paper ears attached to either side of the balloon.

Prepare for Jedi Training

Black butcher paper with a handful of glow-in-the-dark stars and a “Welcome to Jedi Training” sign makes for a simple and very cool front door decoration.

R2-D2 to the Rescue!

I’ve always wanted to make one of these. You can use paper or vinyl stickers to create this adorable R2-D2 trash can (which doubles as an awesome party decoration).

Come to the Dark Side - We Have Cookies!

Every Star Wars party needs one of these decorations! We found our 3 foot tall Darth Vader at a local toy store. He’s pretty popular at parties. I’m sure the real Darth Vader would despise being reduced to peddling cookies, but ours didn’t seem to mind.

Such Cute Little Light Sabers!

They’re certainly not as effective as the real thing, but they sure are cute! These are made with colored straws and an LED light strand. Add some black electrical tape and silver duct tape for the handles, and voila!

Star Wars Birthday Banner

This is a great idea for a “Happy Birthday” or “May the 4th be with You” banner.

Star Wars Sign

I imagine a persistent party planner could come up with a wooden Star Wars sign that could be used to create this cool decoration.

With this design, it looks like they’ve actually drilled a few small holes in the sign and then pushed the lights through each hole. I can see it working either way…drill holes and add the lights or simply tape a strand of lights to the back of the sign to create a halo-type effect (which is what I did with our Batman sign).

Cool Party Game Supplies!

Scooby Doo Party Games and Activities

Awesome Scooby Doo Party Games and Activities

My friend Jennifer spent a lot of time (and probably watched a few Scooby Doo episodes) designing the activities for her daughter's party. Check out the photos below to see how everything turned out (I'll give you a hint - it wasn't good for the villain)!

A Scooby Doo Mystery to Solve

Every good Scooby Doo party needs a villain to steal the birthday cake, right?! Well, that’s what happened at this party!

Scooby Clues!

Luckily for the junior sleuths, the villain left footprints and Scooby clues to follow. It didn’t take long for the party guests to find the clues and unravel the location of the missing cake.

To Catch a Villain...

Needless to say, things did not go well for the creepy villain in this episode of “Scooby Doo, Where are You?” You may not want the silly string mess, but I can personally attest to the level of extreme joy the kids experienced during this activity…especially when they discovered it was the birthday girl’s dad under the villain’s cloak!

The Perfect Disguise

Who doesn't need a good villain mask these days? The kiddos at this party enjoyed coloring and designing villain masks they thought would be Scooby Doo worthy. We provided the masks, markers, stickers, glitter, and other odds and ends for the decoration process.

Mystery Machine Photo Booth

This would likely be the most time consuming decoration for this party theme...but seriously, who can pass up a Mystery Machine photo booth?!

Scooby Doo Escape Room Game

I've seen several good reviews for this game, so if you have a small group of party goers, you might want to check it out! Or maybe try your hand at making your own escape room activity - there are tons of free resources online that can help.

Must-Have's for the Snack Table!

Star Wars Party Food

Star Wars Snacks for the Weary Jedi

If your party guests (I mean, Jedi trainees) are working hard in training, perhaps you should consider offering some tasty treats to fill their bellies and renew their energy! Being a Jedi is hard work, y'all!

Use the Forks, Yoda!

Yoda soda (below) and a very important message for your party guests…don’t forget to “use the forks,” everybody!

7 Leia Dip and Death Star Pizza

Now, this is my kind of Star Wars party! I love a good 7 layer dip - add the Trooper Scoopers, and you've got my attention!

And how about this Death Star pizza!? How tasty - and thematic - is that?

Party Favor Bags & Goodies!

Star Wars Party Invitations and Favors

One-of-a-Kind Star Wars Party Invitations and DIY Favor Bags

These are all such unique ideas! I love invitations that aren't static - all 3 of these actually do something. That's a great way to start a party, for sure!

Light Saber Invitation

I've seen a lot of these online in various styles, but the premise is the same - the light saber rises up from the base to reveal the party information. Really neat design!

BB8 Invitation

This BB8 invitation is really clever. The inner circle of his body rotates to reveal the different party details, like date, time, address, RSVP, etc. !

Light Up Invitation

A very simple design with an extra added touch - a light stick with the light saber handle added on for effect. The light stick is inserted into the card and shines through from the inside as well. Super cool!

Darth Vader and Storm Trooper Favor Bags

Nothing says Star Wars like a good ole’ fashioned Darth Vader (or Storm Trooper) goody bag!

R2D2 and BB8 Favor Bags

And if you're not into the Dark Side, you can always go with these cute R2D2 and BB8 favor bags!

Bubble Wand Light Sabers

Bubbles are always a good choice for party favors, and they work exceptionally well in this instance. Just add a few details on the handle, and you're good to go.
